  A. The History of Computer Networks

The history of computer networks stems from the birth of the concept of computer networks in 1940 at Bell's lab by a Harvard University research group led by Professor Howard Aiken. This research is known as ARPANET.

The ARPANET was developed by the Advanced Reseach Project Agency of the United States Department of Defense. This is a network that became the beginning of the creation of the Internet today that has been realized now.

computer networks is a system consisting of computer-komouter designed to be able to share resources (priter, CPU), communicate (email, instant messaging), and can access information (web browser).

The purpose of a computer network is the creation of a goal, every part of the computer network can request and provide services (service).

computer network classification is divided into several parts, namely:

· Based on Functions

· Based on Topology

· Based on Data Source Distribution

Based on geography, computer network is divided into 3 parts, namely:

1.  Local Area Network (LAN)
2. Metropolitan Area Network (MAN)
3. Wide Area Network (WAN)

Based on its function, computer network is divided into 2 parts, namely:

1. Client-Server Network
2. Peer to Peer Network

Based on topology, computer network is divided into 6 parts, namely:

1. Bus Topology
2. Star topology
3. Mesh Topology
4. Topology Tree
5. Ring Topology
6. Linear Opsions

Based on the source of data information, computer network is divided into 2 parts, namely:

1. Centralized Network
2. Distributed Network

Based on data transmission media, computer network is divided into 2 parts, namely:

1. Wired Network
2. Wireless Network

  C. Benefits of Computer Networking

·       As Sharing Resource

Which aims to make all the equipment, programs, and other peripherals can be utilized by every user in the network computer.

·       As Equipment Development

With the computer network equipment development will be easier and at the same time can save costs, because every purchase of components

·       As an Effective Communication Media

Computer networks can make communication between users to send important information or messages or teleconferences

·      As Data Security

Through a computer network system, stored data will be more secure because it is stored in a central computer that can only be accessed by users who have access rights.
